Kids Promise Charity Home #62 Gives Family a Fresh Start
On June 7, 2025, Mr. Nguyen Van Tung and Mrs. Phan Thi Truc received their new home in Dong A Hamlet, Nhi Binh Commune, Chau Thanh District, Tien Giang Province. After more than a month of construction, the ceremony took place in a cozy atmosphere, with the presence of local authorities, neighbors, and representatives of the Kids Promise group.
Handing over the keys was a momentous occasion representing the giving of trust, sharing community, and the beginning of a new life.
Overcoming Tough Conditions
The family of Mr. Tung and Mrs. Truc works hard to afford basic necessities, leaving no money for home repairs or maintenance. Mr. Tung’s poor health forced him to quit his job as a hired driver, and Mrs. Truc’s entire salary goes towards buying milk, diapers, food, and school supplies.
Mr. Tung stays home to care for the family’s three children and his young nephew, who lives with the family. The family’s second-oldest child also struggles with poor health due to epilepsy and requires special care.
Before Kids Promise, the family of six shared a damp and cramped home made from makeshift materials. With a bed, cooking area, and sitting area sharing the same small space, there was little room for the family to gather together. During the rainy season, the home leaked, and storms caused it to collapse.
A Safe and Sturdy Home Brings Security
The family’s new house has an area of 44m² with a solid structure including concrete pillars, a corrugated iron roof, a ceramic tile floor, and fully plastered walls. Essential interior equipment like a bed, dining table, chairs, and a fan will keep the family comfortable. Its solid construction will ensure the family stays warm and dry even during the rainy season.
Support from Former Minnesota Gophers Player
Charity House #62 was built based on the contribution of Mr. Daniel Hodac and Mrs. Kim Le from Grand Prairie, Texas. Mr. Daniel Hodac is a former student of the Minnesota Golden Gophers football team, class of 1994. The support of the couple helped make Mr. Tung’s family’s dream of having a home come true—something they never dared to think of before.
Kids Promise would like to sincerely thank Mr. Daniel Hodac and Mrs. Kim Le for spreading love and giving strength to families in need. Each house is built not only with bricks and cement, but also with the hearts of those who always believe in kindness.
