Kids Promise House No. 64 Brings Hope and Warmth for Hardworking Family
On October 11, 2025, Kids Promise handed over Charity House No. 64 to the family of Mr. Dang Minh Son and Mrs. Tran Thi Be Hai. The three-generation family from Hamlet 3, Quoi Son Commune, Chau Thanh District, Ben Tre Province had been living together in a small, unsafe house. Thanks to Kids Promise, the family finally has a safe and warm home to call their own.
A Family in Need

Mr. Son and Mrs. Hai live with their daughter and son-in-law, along with two young grandchildren. Their previous home was originally built with government-provided pillars, along with additional parts that the family paid for themselves.
Over the years, the home has deteriorated and become unsafe to live in. Located near the riverbank, the house is also at risk of flooding during heavy rain, high tides, or floodwater releases. During these events, the home becomes almost completely submerged, forcing the family to move their belongings and stay awake through the night in fear and discomfort.
Furthering the hardship, Mr. Son has suffered from a brain tumor since his early thirties, and is now in the final stages of his condition. He is unable to work and requires full-time care from his wife. Due to his health, the family’s only stable income is a social security allowance of 1 million VND per month, equivalent to approximately $40 USD.
Mr. Son and Mrs. Hai’s daughter, meanwhile, had to quit her job to care for her parents and her children. Her husband, working as a factory laborer, earns barely enough to cover the family’s daily food expenses.
Earning Income Harvesting Nipa Palm Fruit
Being elderly, Mrs. Hai suffers from bone and joint pain, yet still tries to earn an income by harvesting nipa palm fruit.
Harvesters usually start their day early in the morning when the tide is low. They travel by small boats or wade through waist-deep water to reach the palm clusters. Using a sharp knife or a sickle, they cut down the heavy bunches of nipa palm fruit that hang close to the water. Each bunch can weigh several kilograms.

After collecting the fruit, workers load it onto boats and bring it home or to the market. The sweet, jelly-like flesh inside the young fruit is used to make drinks, desserts, and even local candies. For many families, this simple yet hard work provides their main source of income.
A Solid Home for a Fresh Start
With limited financial means and health complications, it would be impossible for the family to repair or rebuild their home on their own, despite their hard work. That’s why Kids Promise stepped in to help.
Despite unpredictable weather during the construction phase, Kids Promise was able to create a safe and warm home for Mr. Son and Mrs. Hai’s family. Their new home is made from a sturdy sheet pile foundation, along with concrete columns. A tiled floor throughout the home provides a smooth and sturdy surface, while the cold corrugated iron roof protects the family from the elements.
The handover ceremony was a joyful and emotional event for Mr. Son’s family. With its sturdy construction, the new home will be a much-needed safe haven during floods and rainy weather.
