68th Kids Promise House Gives a Family of Five a Fresh Start

A safe, stable home can transform a family’s future. Through the generosity of dedicated supporters, Kids Promise has completed its 68th Charity House, providing a permanent home for the family of Mr. Nguyen Truong Hau and Mrs. Tran Thi Nguyet in Tri An Commune, Dong Nai Province, Vietnam.

The home was officially presented during a handover ceremony attended by Kids Promise representatives, local authorities, the Hau family, and members of the community. Together, they celebrated not just the completion of a house, but the beginning of a more secure and hopeful chapter for a family in need.

A Family Working Hard to Overcome Poverty

Mr. Hau and Mrs. Nguyet are raising three young children, currently in fourth grade, third grade, and kindergarten. The family lives in a remote area where employment opportunities are limited, and the local economy depends largely on agriculture. Consecutive crop failures in recent years have reduced the demand for seasonal labor, making it increasingly difficult for Mr. Hau to find steady work.

To provide for his family, Mr. Hau accepts whatever day labor he can find, earning an average of about 300,000 VND (about $12 USD) per day when work is available. He often travels to neighboring communes for additional jobs, but the income remains unpredictable. 

Meanwhile, Mrs. Nguyet stays home to care for their children and manage the household. With two young children requiring daily transportation to school and few employment opportunities nearby, working outside the home has not been a realistic option.

When income falls short, the family has relied on loans from relatives or local orchard owners to cover basic living expenses, repaying those debts whenever work becomes available.

Their previous home reflected these ongoing hardships. Built more than a decade ago using bamboo and other basic materials, it had deteriorated significantly over time. Termite damage weakened the structure, and during the rainy season, the leaking roof frequently caused the home to flood, forcing the family to search for dry places to sleep.

Building a Safer Home for the Future

Thanks to the generous support of Joseph & Rozanne Pollack, Phong Ly, My Chi Vo, and Mark Hooley (USA), Kids Promise was able to construct Charity House #68 on the family’s existing property.

The completed 48-square-meter home features a durable concrete foundation, solid brick walls and pillars, clean tiled floors, and a sturdy corrugated metal roof. Built to withstand the elements, the new home provides a safe, secure place for the family to live while giving them a stronger foundation to pursue work, support their children, and build a better future together.
