Kids Promise House #70 Gives the Phan Family a Safe Home

A stable home provides much more than shelter. It gives a family the security and confidence they need to build a better future. On August 1, 2026, Kids Promise handed over Charity House No. 70 to the family of Mr. Phan Van Can and Mrs. Huynh Thanh Le in Hamlet 3, An Lac Thon Commune, Can Tho City, Vietnam.

After more than a decade living in a makeshift home, the Phan family now has a permanent and sturdy home where they can live in peace and look forward to the future with fresh hope.

A Family Facing Financial Hardship

Despite working hard to provide for their family, Mr. Can and Mrs. Le have faced significant challenges. Hoping to create a better life, the couple previously left their hometown to work as laborers. However, circumstances eventually forced them to return home.

With few resources available, Mr. Can and Mrs. Le’s only option was to build a small shack on their family’s garden land. This served as their makeshift home for more than 10 years.

During this time, the family raised a child who is now in ninth grade. Mrs. Le stays home to care for the family and tend the garden, with seasonal work opportunities that occasionally allow her to supplement the family’s income.

Mr. Can provides most of the family’s income by working as a laborer and taking on various jobs as they become available to help his family. When work opportunities are available, he earns about 250,000 VND per day, equivalent to under $10 USD. With inconsistent opportunities, Mr. Can has had to borrow money during difficult periods.

Building a Safer Home for the Future

Recognizing their need for support in building a permanent home, Kids Promise chose the Phan family to receive Charity House No. 70. With the generous support of Tom and Lisa Schoen of the United States, Kids Promise built a new 48-square-meter home on the family’s property.

The completed home features a sturdy concrete foundation and columns, tiled flooring, a corrugated iron roof, and basic interior finishing. The new structure provides the family with a stable place to live while giving them a stronger foundation for the years to come.

Thank You For Helping Us Build a Better Future

A Kids Promise house represents more than bricks, concrete, and a roof. These homes provide families in hardship with safety, dignity, stability, and renewed hope.

Kids Promise sincerely thanks the Schoen family for sponsoring the construction of Charity House 70. We also extend our gratitude to the volunteers, partners, and other benefactors who make these projects possible. With your continued generosity, we can keep building safer homes and better futures for families in need.

Please consider making a donation to help Kids Promise continue this important work.
