Kids Promise House No. 66 Brings New Hope to Hardworking Family
On December 20, 2025, Kids Promise proudly completed Charity House No. 66. In a heartfelt ceremony, volunteers handed the keys to the family of Mr. Nguyen Van Phong and Mrs. Huynh Thi Ngoc Anh, along with their three young children, in An My Hamlet, Ke Sach Commune, Can Tho Province.
Despite unpredictable and stormy weather during construction, the house was finished on schedule, giving the family a safe and secure place to start fresh.
Uncertainty and Hardship
After getting married, Mr. Phong and Mrs. Anh left their hometown to work in Saigon. They took various jobs such as washing dishes, cleaning, and laboring in construction, doing whatever it took to support their family. During this time, the children stayed with their grandmother so their parents could work.
However, when the COVID-19 pandemic struck, work opportunities disappeared, and the family had to return to their hometown. With few resources and limited space available at relatives’ homes, the family didn’t have many options.
Because of their circumstances, their only choice was to live in a temporary thatched house made of bamboo poles. The structure provided only the bare minimum of protection from the elements.
Adjusting to a New Normal
Since moving to their temporary home, Mr. Phong has worked buying and reselling areca during the harvest season. This seasonal agricultural crop is used in cultural and traditional practices, but selling it provides a small financial return—often just enough to cover basic expenses for the family of five.
The family’s three children have shown resilience and responsibility during the family’s hardship. After school, they help with heavy lifting for chores, look after their younger family members, and do housework to help their parents. The children’s hard work serves as a testament to their entire family’s character and hard work, even in the face of adversity.
A New Home Brings Hope
With limited earnings, building a home of their own had been an unreachable goal for the family. Recognizing their hard work and challenging circumstances, Kids Promise chose Mr. Phong and Mrs. Anh to receive Charity House No. 66.
With land left by their parents, the family had a location to build, but just needed the resources. Their new home measures approximately 48 square meters, built on a concrete pile foundation with sturdy brick columns and a corrugated iron roof. With tiled floors and finished walls, the new home provides a stable and secure place for the family to start their next chapter.
This home is more than just a shelter. It’s a place to gather, rest, and live comfortably while the family works towards a new future.
