71st Kids Promise House Gives a Family of Six a Safe Place to Grow
A safe, stable home can change a family’s future. Thanks to the generosity of dedicated supporters, Kids Promise has completed its 71st Charity House. It gives a permanent home to Mr. Le Van Phung, Ms. Duong Thi Gai, and their four children in Dong Tam Hamlet, Dong Tam Commune, Dong Nai City, Vietnam.
The home was officially handed over on September 19, 2026. The family left behind a run-down house and moved into a new home that is spacious, sturdy, and safe. It’s more than shelter from the weather. It gives the parents room to settle in with peace of mind and gives the children a better place to keep up with school.
A Family Facing Hardship With Hope for Their Children
Mr. Phung and Ms. Gai are raising four school-age children, and all of them are doing very well in school. Their dedication to learning is a source of pride for the family, but it has been hard to support it in their old home.
Mr. Phung has lung disease and can’t work, so he stays home to care for the children. That leaves Ms. Gai as the family’s only provider. She takes whatever work she can find, such as tapping rubber trees and working in the fields, and earns about 7-8 million VND (about $280-320 USD) a month.
That income covers the family’s daily needs, but there has never been enough left over to save for a better home. Their old house had a leaking roof, patched walls, and too little space for a family of six. It was badly damaged and constantly damp, which wasn’t good for the children’s health. The children also wished for a better place to study.
Building a Safer Home for the Future
Thanks to the generous support of Mr. Wardwell Johnson of Minneapolis, Minnesota, Kids Promise was able to build Charity House #71 for the family and finish it before the rainy season.
The new 48-square-meter home has a brick foundation and columns, tiled floors, a corrugated metal roof, and basic finishes that meet the family’s everyday needs. It gives the family a dry, stable place to live, so Ms. Gai can work with peace of mind and the children have a better place to keep growing and learning.
Thank You for Making Stories Like This Possible
Every Kids Promise house is more than bricks and mortar. It gives a family safety and a chance to move forward without constantly worrying about the state of their home.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to Mr. Wardwell Johnson for making the 71st Charity House possible. We also thank the local charity group, volunteers, and everyone who has supported this work along the way. Together, we can keep creating safe homes and brighter futures, one family at a time.
Please consider making a donation to help support our work.
