Kids Promise House #69 Creates a Safe New Beginning for the Nguyen Family

In late June 2026, Kids Promise officially handed over Charity House No. 69 to the family of Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Ung and Mrs. Doan Thi Minh Hieu in Bac B Hamlet, Binh Trung Commune, Dong Thap Province. The completion of this home marked the beginning of a safer and more hopeful chapter for the Nguyen family after years of financial hardship and uncertainty.

For Mr. Ung, Mrs. Hieu, and their young son, this new home represents much more than a place to live. It provides the family with a secure foundation, protection from the elements, and the opportunity to begin rebuilding their future together.

A Family Facing an Uncertain Future

Before returning to their hometown, Mr. Ung and Mrs. Hieu worked as garment factory employees in Saigon. Their lives changed dramatically after the COVID-19 pandemic, when both parents lost their jobs while their son, Minh Tri, was still only a few months old.

With few opportunities to support their family in the city, they made the difficult decision to return to Dong Thap Province and start over. However, because Mr. Ung had left his hometown early in life to pursue work, he did not have a home of his own to return to.

After moving back, the family lived in a small room beside Mr. Ung’s parents’ house. The space was cramped and offered little privacy, making daily life challenging for the young family. Because the room sat lower than the surrounding street level, it frequently flooded during heavy rains, leaving the family vulnerable during severe weather.

Despite these challenges, Mr. Ung continued working hard to provide for his family. He currently works at a rice mill, where his income depends on available work and production output. When work is limited, he takes on additional jobs to help cover household expenses. However, with an unstable income, saving enough money to build a permanent home was out of reach.

Like many parents, Mr. Ung’s greatest wish was to provide his wife and son with a safe place to live, where they could look toward a more stable future.

Building a Foundation for a New Chapter

Recognizing the family’s need for safe and secure housing, Kids Promise selected the Nguyen family as recipients of Charity House No. 69. With the support of generous donors, construction began to provide the family with a home designed for long-term stability.

The completed house covers approximately 48 square meters and includes a concrete foundation and columns, tiled flooring, a corrugated iron roof, and basic finishing throughout. The new structure provides the family with a stronger, safer living environment while protecting them from flooding and harsh weather conditions.

Charity House No. 69 was made possible through the generous sponsorship of Daniel Hodac and Kim Le of Grand Prairie, Texas, USA. Their support helped bring a complete home to a family who had spent years living with uncertainty. Mr. Hodac, a former student of the 1994 graduating class of the University of Minnesota Golden Gophers, helped demonstrate how generosity can cross borders and create meaningful change for families in need.
